These incredible women are entrepreneurs, innovators and makers who are paving their own way in business, education, society, motherhood, and many more aspects of life.  Learn how they started their ventures, the challenges they faced along the way and see how they are building their future - all of our futures - while inspiring others.

Personal Style Consultant and Fashion Blogger Katie Schuppler

Introduce yourself

Hey everyone! My name is Katie Schuppler, I am a Personal Style Consultant and Fashion Blogger/Writer for my business KS Style Consulting. After gaining a Bachelors of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandise Management and Business Administration from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, WI I had then gone on to become a Stylist/Style Director at the #1 women’s boutique in Milwaukee, Fred Boutique working in the retail world for 7 years.

Now living in the city of Chicago, I have been dedicated to helping my clients (Men, Women, Kids, Tall, Petite, and Plus Size) find their own personal style through advice, Styling Sessions, Closet Clean-outs, Consignment, Look Books, and Speaking Engagements throughout  Chicagoland, Southeastern Wisconsin,  Southwestern Michigan, and NYC  for over a decade! I also worked as the former Wardrobe Stylist for The Whitney Reynolds Show in Chicago and previously a Contributing Writer/Style Editor  for Chicago Woman Magazine and am now the Fashion Director for Felix Magazine.

My client is a man or woman who is price conscious, but still wants to look fabulous and fashion forward. Having him or her feel confident at the end of the day is the ultimate achievement!

Why did you start your own company or brand/ become an entrepreneur/ or be your own boss?

I knew I always wanted to be an entrepreneur even from the time I was a little girl! I even started a fake business called “Katie’s Cuts” (a hair salon) which is pretty funny now looking back. My parents are entrepreneurs and I have always looked up to them in what they have done and created. My dad started his business decades ago and to see someone actually go to work each day and love what they do is something I aspired to have.

What has been your biggest failure in business and what did you learn from it?

Something that has been my biggest failure and continues to be is balance. I really value time with my family and friends and try as best I can to make sure I see them on a regular basis, but it is extremely difficult when you are running a business to keep up with it all. This year I am making that even more of a priority and going forward as well!

What is the first thing you do after waking up to jumpstart a successful day?

The first thing I do when I wake up is make or get a matcha latte with oat milk and then workout and sometimes answer emails while working out :)

What tools (apps, books, podcasts, etc) would you recommend to anyone starting their own business/ makes your work day easier?

Something that really helps me is writing down my schedule, it makes it stick in my mind better that way, it’s old school but it works along with Google calendar invites!

What person in history, living or dead, has inspired you and how?

Rachel Zoe and my Dad have been two entrepreneurs that have really inspired me with  my career!

If this wasn’t your job, what’s something else you’ve always wanted to do/start/create?

If I didn’t have my business I would want to be a pyschiatrist. The cool part of my job is that I kind of get to be one with my clients. Getting to know them and the psychology of people’s views of their bodies along with the attachment and/or relationship with clothing makes me feel like I have the two careers I always wanted.
